Morning Devo- I don’t feel like being a Christian anymore. By Sherry Thorpe

Nothing is working. I haven’t changed. I can’t “feel” God anymore. Maybe He has left me because I’m too much of a sinner. I don’t want to be fake. I just want to live my life and be a good person, but I don’t want to be a Christian.

If you’ve accepted Christ in to you, you are a Christian and those feelings may or may not come. Feelings where it seems like everything is going wrong and you keep failing at things you are trying to do right! Hmm I wonder if anyone in the Bible can relate?

Paul begged the Lord 3 times to take “a suffering away” and the Lord simply replied with, “My Grace is enough, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Meaning you don’t need me to take “it” away from you, you just need my grace and it’s good to be weak and acknowledge it. When we admit we are weak, we allow the Lord to come in and His power is exposed in our Life. Indulge yourself in His grace- In the person of Christ and watch how those negative feelings will change. It’s something about being in the Person of Christ that takes us straight to paradise. This has been my experience! Regardless of the day I’ve had if I would simply turn my focus to Christ, the Lord is faithful to bless me with His peace and overwhelms me with His Love every single time.

When negative feelings like “I just want to throw the towel in” comes in to your mind, into your feelings just turn your focus completely to the Lord and watch how He strengthens you In Him.

” if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14

We may not see it as wicked but it is wicked to not trust completely in the Lord. It’s wicked to not believe that He will do what He said He will do in His Word. So when these thoughts or feelings come in to our mind we need to fight back in Christ because Satan sure wants you to throw the towel in. Christ wants to empower YOU in Him to defeat the devil. He wants to show out in your Life but He needs cooperation from you. The Lord is a gentleman and He will do what He needs to do when He has our permission to do so. Crazy He is Lord and still waits for us to say, ” Take the wheel Lord!”

Being around believers who love the Lord helps soften your heart so it’s easier for you to turn to Him. I would encourage you to meet with local believers often whether it’s in a Church setting, small group or just a hangout. The Lord lives in and uses His believers too. So many times I felt like giving up and found myself around believers and those thoughts simply disappeared without me confessing to them my thoughts. Awesome right?

Just a small recap: The Lord will never leave you nor forsake you! – Hebrew 13:5 He will not fail us but He does require our cooperation first. Open up to the Lord, confess your sins and let the Lord heal your mind so He can empower you to walk In Him and defeat the devil who comes to steal from us, kill us and destroy us! But remember Jesus said, “I have come that YOU may have Life and Life more abundantly.” – John 10:10

Jesus is life! In the Bible (John 14:6) it says, ” I am the truth, the way, and the life.” So just open up to Life aka  Jesus and watch your perspective change. Turning our focus to the Jesus makes Him Lord over us and that situation. This is the cure❤️

If you have never made the decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and want to, feel free to ask your local pastor or believer. Or you can PM me on social media.

  1. What a great post. I have felt overwhelmed by sin and guilt. Felt very far from God. Left church. One of the reasons my wife encouraged me to start this blog

    • Oh wow. I’m glad your wife encouraged you. I believe a lot of us have that feeling of God is far from us but the truth is He is never far we may just be overwhelmed with the cares of this World and we create the distance. I like your blog title. So authentic!
