How to recover from abuse.

A fancy title was unnecessary for this unpleasant topic. As I begin to type there’s such a fear for me to continue but I am sure based on God’s secure words that He has not given me a spirit of fear but of peace and a sound mind.

So here we go. Did you know 1 in 10 children have been sexually abused before the age of 18? Click here

I wanted to touch a few points regarding molestation as well as share my story in hopes to help someone receive necessary healing and freedom from the pain that’s associated with experiencing it.

1. It’s NOT your fault. If a person touched you or performed any sexual acts with you as a child (or against your will) it’s not your fault. Grown ups should protect children at all cost. Unfortunately we live in a very sinful, sexual world. Some people have a desire to seek sex from a child and force themselves to steal a child’s purity and it’s not ok and it’s not your fault. It’s that person’s wicked desire to engage in something God did not make right.

2. Secrecy turns to shame. The violation that one experiences regarding this topic causes some to keep it a secret (especially if they’ve been threatened or asked to). Sometimes horror stories of not being believed causes one to keep their mouth closed until the pain outweighs their shame. The violator May ask for the child to keep it a secret from fear of being exposed to the wickedness they are for sure isn’t right.

3. Confront it- This may be hard but is absolutely necessary for you or the person/child to move on. Accept the fact that it has happened and sadly the past can not be changed but you can absolutely walk in complete freedom the pain. Counceling may help you. Talking about it is one way of confronting what happened and processing it.

4. Forgive the violator. A lot of people think forgiving a person is giving them a pass to continue on misbehaving, or saying that they are right and that’s not the case. Being molested is not right and when you forgive that person that violated you, it will FREE you from the pain they afflicted upon you.  I saw a fb post the other day, ‘when we don’t forgive it’s like drinking poison expecting the other person to die.’

5. Enjoy life– The past can not be changed but your future can be. There’s so much in life for you to experience and I want everyone that has experienced molestation to know that there’s such a beautiful World for one to experience. The pain you encounter doesn’t have to be a weight you carry for a lifetime. You can enjoy life and live a healthy life although you’ve experienced this tragedy as a child. I am a living testimony.

5F85CFE4-A6AA-4740-BDA9-7A094CE9B1FB

On to my testimony:

Around the age of four I was molested by an extended family member. Looking back on it; it seemed normal. I was a child and he said, ‘let’s be friends.’ And then he did what he did to me and said, ‘it’s our secret, don’t tell anyone.’ The last time it happened I guess my little child self was fed up and I told him. ‘I didn’t want to be friends anymore.’ And He never touched me again (actually I think a family member suspected something and eventually he was removed from the household). I remember going to school one day and the school had a puppet program and it was about molestation (kid friendly). At the end of the program the question was asked, ‘Has anyone touched you?!’ And I remember wanting to say something (in fact I used to have a lot of black outs from my memory around that time so I am not for sure if I did or not.) At the age of 11 I shared with one of my friends what happened and she shared that she too was molested. Sharing with my friend gave me the courage to share with another friend and she was molested to. When I got older I did alot of research and found some devastating statiscs on molestation. It happens so often and usually with someone in the family or close to it. The violated can easily become the violator and it turns in to vicious cycle.

Sharing with my family wasn’t done in a pleasant way at all. In fact it was messy, chaotic and disrespectful. I was 21 years old and the guilt of my own sins (having sex before marriage, doing drugs, not honoring my Dad) and the shame of molestation was such a heavy burden for me to carry. I literally told my family and later wanted to commit suicide (I’ll be doing a blog on suicide at a later date.) Later that week I gave my life to Jesus and entered such a loving relationship with Him. Jesus not only healed my heart but freed me from all the pain I encountered as a child!

How did I forgive the man that violated me? I just remember struggling with a particular sin and meditating on the scripture, ‘all fall short of the glory of God.’ And I thought about all the bad things I did and how out of control I was and felt. I mean I was a thief, liar, backstabber, drama starter, disrespectful and much more. Jesus died for and forgave me just as he died for the man that molested me. Soon my heart was softened. I don’t think anyone truly wants to hurt a child however I believe being controlled by a sinful nature can cause a person to do ungodly things.  This thought allowed me to whole heartedly forgive him and move on. That moment has also caused me to be more understanding and merciful regarding people’s choices to choose wickedness over righteousness. I take great comfort in knowing, ‘that all things work together for good for those who love God.’ Being molested didn’t destroy me but I do believe if one isn’t healed the pain associated with the violation will kill the person; Unforgivess, shame, and pain can cause physical sickness in the body. We can get the counseling we need to move forward and enjoy the life God has gifted to us.

Check out this blog on how to spot a molester :

I hope this helps you or helps you understand molestation a little more. I pray that the Lord heals your heart completely if you’ve been violated in any way shape or form. I pray that you truly walk in the freedom God has planned for your life. Please feel free to leave me  comment or a DM if you would like through social media.

We are being sent to dangerous environments! Are you prepared?!

F558DD87-BC76-46F0-9B65-2FBE5C1B228E.jpeg

Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.“ Matt 10:16

Wolves are natorious for preying on sheep. Wolves will hunt and eat a sheep. This gruesome message from Jesus isn’t something to take lightly. I am sending you to very dangerous situations. I am sending you to a situation where the people would like to devour you. Be as clever (shrewd) as snakes and harmless as dove. Be strategic. Be aware. Be sober of people and your surroundings.

Oh I am so thankful for the Bible. Every word provided in it is so  critical for our understanding and walking by faith.  The warnings and messages will serve as important treassures to live by, to be gaurded in, and to meditate on. It’s beautiful because the Lord not only thought of everything so we might have success as faithful children but God also provided the very tools so that we would have the ability to walk it out. The very best resource we have is the Holy Spirit that perfectly teaches us all things, warns us about all things, convicts us, leads us, and comforts us. The Holy Spirit is such an amazing resource.

The things that lurk for us in the darkness can be exposed. The advice is clear be as shrewd as a snake.

50F56BD5-F435-49AA-83B5-B3A9DE759B74.jpeg

Be sharp, be smart, be wise and be clever. Be a sharp player on defense. Don’t lie and wait to be devoured. We have been given the resources to pass the test and to endure to the end. We can do this! How am I so confident?! Because my hope and Faith is in His Word. His precious words that haven’t been found to be a lie even today. We can do ALL things through Christ. It’s time to put on our Holy warrior equipment and endure.

B066903C-1476-45CC-880C-F52805CBF44F.jpeg

We must be wise and be as harmless as doves remembering that though these evil spirits are operating through man at times we must remember who the enemy is. Every Human on this Earth has an opportunity to receive Jesus as their Lord and savior and the moment they do makes them our sibling. We must be harmless because this war isn’t against flesh and blood but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

Are you prepared to fight? Are you aware you are in a war? Are you acknowledging that Jesus is sending us as sheep amongst wolves? Don’t be shocked when an attack comes (because it will come), be ready! We have no need to worry or fear any enemy because the Lion (Jesus) not only walks with us but lives in us.

Here I grow again

Nothing dirty bout my thirty. #Classy360 #360Months

526DAA47-3C96-4901-84C4-5B8A679BC9A9

I gracefully walked into my 30’s today #Jan28.

I purposely made my birthday activities to include Classy, relaxing and fun things. I went to the Symphony De la cirque with the Dallas symphony (pics in my gallery), Spa Castle, and Church then brunch at Grand Lux in Dallas, Texas.

I wanted to enter into my 30’s with a clean slate and nothing dirty about it. I wanted to walk in the finished product of the growth from my 20’s today NOT tomorrow. I had plenty of dirty in my 20’s and I refused to bring that in my 30’s. I am so very thankful for all the life lessons that my 20’s taught me. I was like a sponge in my 20’s and I believe it’s bc I had no idea what I was doing so I was trying to learn. 21 is when I rededicated my life to the Lord so I spent most of my 20’s following Jesus; The rest of the time I spent following others or doing my own thing (whether it was the right path or not).

I felt the molding of God’s hands in my life in my 20’s as I stumbled into adulting. I believe there’s adulting and then there’s adulting God’s way. My pastor Tim Ross of Embassy City Church shared with us ‘Our parent set us up to leave the house and become independent but God always wants us to be dépendant on Him.’ How amazing is that? God is a forever walk with us God. I don’t believe I would be the woman I am today if it wasn’t for God being intentional about walking with me.

6C874B80-FC77-4F4F-8577-6D867EBD8943

God stripped me, invested in me and molded me and I blossomed into someone I didn’t think I could become. I became a woman of faith. Of course my journey isn’t over but the plans I had for my life are definitely not being lived out today through me bc My God intervened, redirected and ordered my steps. Allowing God to wrought himself into me has been great pain and pleasure but I am beyond convinced it was/is worth it. I completely did a 360 because who I am today isn’t anywhere near the girl I was.

Side note: My birthday theme was called Classy 360 to remind myself I’m a classic and 360 is 30 Years Times 12 months. Also to symbolize the 360 full circle transition into my 30’s.

I am in a different place all together where I have no clue to what’s ahead. I am literally walking by faith. I am not sure what the Lord has planned ahead but I do know it is to cause Christ to grow in me. I am extremely excited to continue this journey of walking with the King of kings. So no I don’t have the house, the spouse, kids, degree, career or car I planned for but I have God who knows the beginning and the end, who makes crooked paths straight, the Promise keeper and the perfect leader leading my life. I know I am right where God intended for me to be right smack dab in the middle of Irving, TX, USA, member of Embassy City Church, Pharmaceutical Patient care coordinator, riding public transportation,  and living with 10 to 12 maybe 13 room mates at any given time. So I may not be where I planned but I’m where I’m needed to grow. My life is being written by the perfect Author and I’m loving the chapters thus far.  I’m ready for my 30’s adventures and I am so excited that God has given me G R E A T friends to enjoy this journey with. I know one thing I’ll be doing and that is enjoying life with God and them. 🥂 To turning 30.

When was your last revelation concerning Christ?

IMG_3990

Today I worked both of my jobs in Downtown Dallas, Texas, USA. Thankfully I had about a 3 hour and 30 minute break. I’ve been exhausted from my shifts and to add to everything I’m moving!

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27.

I’ve heard scriptures about the peace from God but I’m not sure if I’ve acknowledged that this is something I’ve received from God or even thanked Him for for giving me peace. Right now I am going through a pretty hard season in the physical realm but spiritually I feel as if I’m walking on water!

What does any of this have to do with a bicycle, Sherry?! Well I’m glad you guided me back to that lol. Yesterday as I was riding a bicycle in Downtown Dallas, Texas, USA, I had so much peace as I let the breeze caress my face. I felt like a kid with endless positive possibilities. I began to reminisce on my first time riding a bicycle and how I taught myself. I started with just one training wheel (borrowing a neighbors bike) and then as I kept riding (almost all day) the other training wheel fell off and I was on my own. I was riding the bicycle with no training wheels! And I thought about my life with Christ, no one taught me about how a relationship with Christ should look like. I just loved Him and He loved me back. I just knew that I wanted a relationship full of love and here was a person willing to give it to me.

My relationship with Christ started much like my experience with riding that bicycle for the first time, I just hopped on the bike and tried something and it seemed to be working. Now I’m sure everyone’s first bicycle experience didn’t happened like mine but what I do know is that you at least just tried it out and eventually got the hang of it. Now it had been a while since I rode a bike and yesterday riding the bicycle was a skill I did not lose, the saying is true, “Its like riding a bike.” That saying refers to something that is second nature and is something so easy it’s hard to forget.

IMG_3982

My relationship with Christ is just like riding a bike it was so natural (second nature) for me to treat Him like a person because that’s how He was introduced to me. I’ve never thought of Him as this far away God because He never felt far away. Jesus is truly my best friend and I talk about anything with Him. Having a relationship with Christ is so easy. I found out quickly that being obedient to God is easy as well, when you enjoy someone’s presence it’s kind of hard to offend them because you don’t want to hurt them. I enjoy God and He blesses me with His presence and as I am enjoying Him spontaneously things that I struggle with are no longer a concern and making the right choices become so easy because I’m doing life with Christ.

Is your relationship something that’s so second nature or do you feel the need to have to conjure up something to be able to talk with Him, pray, sing/dance with Him?! I want to challenge you to treat the Lord like the person He is and I’m telling you that YOU won’t be disappointed. He is truly the best person on Earth- Just taste and see!

This revelation of how easy life with Christ is came while I was riding a bicycle. Christ is immeasurable hence you will never have enough revealations of who He is. Almost everyday I have a revelation of Christ. When I am expecting to see Him in some form or fashion I receive revelations from somethings someone says or does, something I see or do, or some man made thing in this World. The Lord is all over the place and He is waiting to reveal Himself to you. My prayer is that your spiritual eyes would be open so you could see how wonderful and magnificent our God is!

If you have never made the decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and want to, feel free to ask your local pastor or believer. Or you can PM me on social media. Or you can pray right now. Lord Jesus I believe you love me with an everlasting love. I believe you came into the World to die for my sins and forgive my sins. Please come live in me and  dine with me. I choose you to be my Lord and Savior! In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Have you ever found yourself running away hopelessly?

IMG_3826

I tried to run from the calling of God on my life, and destroy the anointing while traveling to foreign countries. Satan was happy to help me out. And God allowed it because He knew He would get the Glory!

I found myself fed up with the way my physical life was going (my spiritual life and growth was great). My physical life was giving me a headache. I was fired from 4 jobs in the past 2 years and those last 4 jobs, co workers lied on me causing me to completely shut down and crawl into my shell. My light was totally dimmed. I couldn’t handle another attack in Corporate America. I couldn’t handle one more lie, deceit, or backstabbing. I couldn’t handle giving my all to a job and finding out that I’m unappreciated and hearing those words, “We’ve decided to let you go” one more time. I couldn’t handle adopting a negative attitude because the environment I was in would NOT let me be great. I thought to myself “Okay ‘Miss Can’t get right’ let’s go travel the World”. And I did just that. I rented out my apartment for 1 month and traveled to Mexico and Belize and got in the “belly of the whale” aka UA’s airplane. I found myself indulging in the ways of my old life. I tried just about everything in the song “Cranes in the Sky” by Solange. I found myself partaking in death by enjoying the things of this World more than enjoying My King who died to set a free from the very thing I was binding myself to.

The very thing that had me once in chains and at the alter singing at the top of my lungs, “break every chain” by Jesus Culture, I willingly chained myself to it… again. There is where I experienced Grace and Mercy at its fullness. I had an extra dose of it in that season.

As I arrived in “the belly of the whale” I found myself walking straight back into my calling. I found myself trying to fight it away and run it away but it kept finding me. As I spontaneously began to pour out Christ from my speaking and being, I knew that I would never get away. And I believe I began to embrace Christ even in that dark season I was in. I continued to love Him and spend time with Him. I found His Love to be MORE potent in that season- of course His Love is always the same but I found myself in plenty of undeserving situations where I KNEW I didn’t deserve His Love, mercy, grace or His presence. Jesus didn’t withhold anything from me in this season. In this season where I tried to “Cranes in the Sky” it away, away, away By Solange Knowles.

IMG_3824

Consciencely I didn’t know all of this was going on until I looked back at how I lived through this season. Unconsciencely I tried to run a way from the calling of God! Consciensely I went away. Consciencely I thought it was the hurt from being fired 4 times, and the pain America’s hurting people I wanted to run from. It was so much pain and still is so much pain in this World and I “just knew” My answer was in traveling and escaping the US of A! Boy, was I ever so wrong!

I found my answer in Jesus upon my return. On 6/23/17 I took my relationship with Jesus to a new level as I chose to ask the Lord to make me a living overcomer. The most liberating decision I made was to surrender completely to Jesus. Clearly the day I decided to follow Jesus on May 6, 2009 I picked up some old habits again and I needed to “run to the Cross, run to the Cross” by rapper KB Fokus (voice of the youth). I found myself purposely running to the cross each day and my life began to overflow with peace and the abundant life. I am still running to the cross daily and resting in the arms of my Savior while enjoying/experiencing decreasing and allowing Him to increase within me.

I found purpose in my efforts of trying to run away. I found purpose in the spiritual attacks I received in Corporate America. I found out that no matter the situation or circumstances God would get the glory and what the enemy meant for harm God would truly turn it around for my good (Gen 50:20).  I found out that I am truly called by God and there is no where I can hide from Him. I found out that even when I run I’ll find out that my answer always runs with me. My answer’s name is Jesus and His promises are true! I found out that no matter how much I try to ________ it away, I’ll always be able to find my answers in Jesus!

I’m so very thankful for that season because literally I feel like I’m walking on water now. Sure I have ups and downs like all people but I’ve definitely made a purposeful decision to keep Jesus in the boat with me as I travel through these human life experiences. So instead of _______ing it away, I Christ it away lol and it seems to be working. I come to Christ and lay my burdens at His feet like He has always said I (We) could do! Matt 11:28.

Well I hoped you enjoyed my transparent testimony as I totally exposed my entire life in this post.

Are you a sheep who knows our Shepherd’s voice?

IMG_3715

Recently I heard a message from Priscilla Shirer a Pastor here from Dallas, TX, USA. And she nailed this message about knowing God’s voice. She thoroughly educated us about sheep and their Shepherd and how the the good shepherds would study and spend a lot of time getting to know their 100 sheep!!! They would KNOW them and could tell them apart from other sheep, how awesome is that?! Several shepherds would place their sheep in the same “holding station/ pen station” while they would possibly go in to town to rest. A gatekeeper would stay and literally be the gate and lay down blocking the entrance and exit while waiting for the shepherds to return for their sheep. Upon the shepherd’s return he would call out for his sheep, AND JUST THEIR SHEEP would come, because they knew their shepherd’s voice! It becomes even more amazing, a shepherd could alter their voice and call just one sheep out of the one hundred and that one particular sheep would come!

This amazed me because had I not been educated on sheep, I’m not sure I could relate as much as I am relating and enjoying the scripture, “I am the Good Shepherd I know my own and my own know Me.” John 10:14. With the World’s situation and as many voices that are being spoken from so many different platforms it’s good to know our Shepherd’s voice. Actually let me back up, I had  a guy once tell me that “He would believe in God if God would speak to him but God isn’t speaking!” The truth is – God is speaking and either we are listening, or we aren’t listening or we are hearing His voice and taking credit for what He is saying”.

So agreed, God is speaking! We need to be those who spend time with our Shepherd getting to know Him, listening to His voice and actually obeying it and following only Him. The God of this universe is speaking to you and wants you to actually listen. God speaks to deaf people. They may not can hear a physical sound from the Earth or our mouths but God speaks directly to our hearts, His voice comes from within and from without. The Bible says in Matt 24:4,5,11

IMG_3717

There’s a guy in Miami right now claiming to be the Messiah and he has many followers! You can’t be deceived if you know Our Shepherd’s voice!

“The change in time has not changed the Shepherd’s desire to get to know us, but if we are not careful the change in time will change our desire to get to know Him” – Priscilla Shirer

When a world has decided that they have no need of God, We The Church will take a stand and say ALL WE NEED IS GOD! We will get to know our Shepherd’s ways, thoughts, and His voice. We will not be deceived because we know His voice. And guess what the Shepherd knows us too. We are not a stranger to Him. He knows us and we know Him. Hallelujah we know our Shepherd’s voice and He leads us gracefully! He speaks, we hear, He leads, we follow, He is the Shepherd, we are the sheep, He knows us and we know Him. What a God we have?!

The Way is not limited to a path, He is a person and His name is Jesus!

IMG_3570

So many times I hear Jesus being limited to a path we should take. In one sense of course this is true. This blog post is not to disclaim this truth but to shine light on how “The Way” is so much bigger than a path we should take.

In John 14:6 NLT “Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” There is only one way to God and Jesus is the key! Here is where we see Jesus to be one path to one destination. Okay so Jesus gives me access to the Holy God so when will we ever need “The Way” again? I’m so glad you’ve asked that question! Everyday we have choices set before us and as we enjoy Jesus as Life aka “The Way” We spontaneously choose “the Life Way”. In Deuteronomy 30:19-20 God says this:

IMG_3571

When we are in Jesus (the matter of position) we are enjoying Him as our Life and we spontaneously choose “The Way” which is always the perfect Way, always the right path, always choosing blessing! Now if we are honest with ourselves, we know sometimes in our life we do not choose Life, we choose death by being in the flesh and making “fleshly” desire decisions. We may choose death in the way we choose to react when someone is rude to us by responding in a way that Christ would not want us to respond; However on the flip side God has a plan for when we are operating out of our flesh which leads to death and it’s this scripture:

img_3572.png

So when we make bad choices aka flesh decisions, God works turns those decisions to work out for our good. When the enemy has a plan to kill, steal and destroy us- God works that out for our good! How wonderful is this?! This is why we should worry, because even against all odds we come out in top walking on water because God is absolutely for us winning! In fact the Bible says we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS IN CHRIST! (Romans 8:37).

The more we exercise ourselves to purposely focus on Christ, the more we will spontaneously choose Life. Earlier this week I was in a small car accident. A young girl was speeding, weaving in and out of traffic and hit my car. She was frantic when we stopped our cars to exchange information and was extremely hype and in a calm tone (which is absolutely NOT normal for me) I responded to her and she became humble! How was this? Who calmed this storm? I was enjoying Jesus as my Life by singing to Him in the car right before the accident and He was so present during this entire matter (as He is in all of our lives).

IMG_3574

I was able to befriend this young woman and tell her a little bit about the Lord and how she should value her life and not be so reckless driving as it could it end very badly for her. Now this was absolutely Christ operating in me as my life because this is just something I wouldn’t do. So it isn’t a matter of thinking of “WWJD” aka “What would Jesus do” and doing it but letting Him operate in you and flow out of you as Life and afterwards your response will be “Oh that’s what Jesus would do!” Jesus was always reaching people no matter the situation. Jesus is “The Way” to reach people. He is always the answer! (John 3:30). The more we spend time with Jesus by reading the Bible, singing to Him, praying, listening to hmHis voice etc.., the more we began to walk and talk like Him. We must be intentional in our relationship with Christ, because that’s what you do when you are in a relationship. If we truly decrease and let Him increase then He can operate in us and God’s will WILL BE DONE and we will have heaven on Earth. (Matt 6:10) So choose “The Way” today and all day by enjoying Christ as your Life and keeping your focus on Him All day!

If you have never made the decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and want to, feel free to ask your local pastor or believer. Or you can PM me on social media. Or you can pray right now.
