1 year ago I moved to Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬ | Moving Abroad

1 year ago I moved to Egypt. I ran into a whole bunch of unexpected πŸ˜‚πŸ˜³. Living in Egypt on $600/month budget including my cell phone bill & USA storage fees, YASSSSSSSSS!

One thing I learned this 2nd time moving abroad is that the Blaxit is not a one size fits all.

I woke up one day with an idea to move to Africa, searched on airbnb (yup, I searched the entire continent of Africa), chose Egypt, searched gov sites for what was needed to enter Egypt and prepared my move. In less than 3 months, I was in Paris making my way to Hurghada, Egypt.

I picked the beginning of my travel to Egypt route, starting with a flight from Miami, Florida to Paris, France for $127.50 πŸ€―πŸ€―πŸ€―πŸ—£οΈYUP! And did some solo traveling for 45 days before landing in Cairo, Egypt.

I never signed a lease the entire time I lived in Hurghada, Egypt and did visa runs. I chose the not so luxury stay and ended up paying $100/month in rentπŸ€―πŸ‘οΈπŸ‘οΈπŸ«£.

The unexpected – I did a tad bit search on the language but I wasn’t expecting alot of the building names to be in Arabic and that’s when the culture shock almost sent your girl packing her carryon and backpack and leaving asap to go back HOME to the US of A πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ. πŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈ BUT GOD πŸ˜‚β€οΈ. I prayed and sensed I should stay. I chose to stay and ended up living a luxury life that I couldn’t have dreamed of experiencing in Egypt.

So I love me a good beach club. Sit me on the beach and bring me a cocktail and some wings please while I soak in the vitamin D! Resort life me on a budget please! $25 for entry, food, drinks β€” yeah that goes in the budget πŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈπŸ—£οΈ.

I renewed my passport for the first time while living in Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬πŸ«£. Kudos to traveling/moving to countries that have a US embassy!

Living in Egypt, I learned a lot about the European people here as a lot of them had the same idea as me πŸ—£οΈlet’s move to Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬.

I know about 30 words in Egyptian Arabic – a different Arabic dialect, just like USAmericans speak a different dialect of English than Peeps from England.

I live in a tourist city (Hurghada, Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬) so many places people speak English BUT I can still find myself in places where I have to rely on the google translation app.

Anyways, I’ve said a lot just to say – 2 weeks of planning (committing to leave in 3 months or less) to move to Egypt was a win for me but it may not be for you. You may need more time or less but the point is your experience to moving abroad may not work for me or others and vice versa.
