When people think of Egypt, their minds usually go straight to pyramids, ancient tombs, and the hustle of Cairo. But after spending months traveling the country, let me put you on to a gem that deserves a spot on your itinerary — Hurghada.

Whether you’re a beach lover, island hopper, or just in need of a break from the chaos of Cairo, Hurghada is an amazing place to be FREE.
✈️ Getting to Hurghada: From Cairo to the Coast
Hurghada has its own international airport, so depending on where you’re flying in from, you might be able to land directly here. If not, no worries — it’s super easy to get to from Cairo:
GO Bus (or any bus it a variety) – Around $10 USD, 6–7 hour ride (comfy and reliable) Private driver – 5.5 hours and a great option if you want flexibility
🌊 Island Hopping in the Red Sea
The 6 Island Tour I did was one of the most unforgettable days I’ve had in Egypt. Perfect for first-timers who want a sampler of what the Red Sea has to offer.

🛥️ Tour Stops Included:
Orange Bay – Stunning, a bit crowded, but there’s plenty of space to stretch out and relax. Giftun Island National Park – Snorkel central! Bright coral, tropical fish, and warm clear water. Abo Mongar Island – Calm, natural beauty. A more peaceful vibe. Big Magawish Island – Great for soaking in the view and kicking back. Small Magawish Island – A literal swimming pool in the sea. Surreal. White Island Sandbank – Bright white sand + IG-worthy shots galore.
We even snorkeled over a sunken wreck — and the cherry on top? Our captain spotted wild dolphins, turned the boat around, and let us SWIM WITH THEM. No schedule. No extra charge. Just divine timing.
Pro Tip: While the 6 Island Tour is great, you can also book full-day trips to specific islands like Orange Island or Magawish if you want more time to explore and chill.
🍴 Eats with a View
If you know me, you know I love a good meal with a vibe. Hurghada has that covered.
Granada Restaurant – Hands down the best view of the city. Come at sunset.
Sheraton Street – Tourist-heavy, but filled with restaurants, street food, and cafés. Just tell your driver “Sheraton” and thank me later.
🛍️ Shopping in Hurghada

Whether you want souvenirs or a quick retail fix, check these out:
Sheraton Street – For haggling and local goods. This street is going to have your faux brands like Miu Miu, Michael Kors, Coach, & Louis Vuitton so you’ll need to haggle for a good price.
Sherry Street – Cute shops and a nice stroll
Senzo Mall – Modern shopping mall with both local and international brands
🌴 Bonus Day Trip: Visit El Gouna
Please hear me when I say this — do not leave Hurghada without visiting El Gouna, especially if you’re staying longer than 5 days.
El Gouna is a private, gated town just 20–30 minutes from Hurghada. Imagine a mix of Italy, Tulum, and the Red Sea. It’s a manmade lagoon city, using the same Red Sea water, so the water is crystal clear and calm.
Favorite Spots in El Gouna:
La Playa Beach Club – 350 EGP ($6.50) minimum. WiFi available. Small beach club but still a vibe. Great music – House music, Egyptian, hip hop (great variety). Click that link to view my day there.
Zouni Beach Club – 200 EGP ($4) to entry fee | 700 EGP ($14) minimum. WiFi available. Great food. Plenty of games and this place gives the Tulum boho vibes. Click that link to view my day there.
Mood Restaurant & Beach Club – The Tulum vibes are strong here. Luxe but laid-back. Restaurant- you just pay for food. Beach club $10 USD entry fee (no minimum).

The Club House – Great service, chill ambiance, and only a $14 minimum spend (easy win for us tourists 😂).

🌟 Final Thoughts
Hurghada is more than just a stop on the map — it’s a full experience. Whether you’re solo, a first-time traveler to Egypt, or just looking for something outside the typical tourist route, this coastal city offers peace, beauty, and a whole lot of joy.
From island hopping and swimming with dolphins to beach clubs that feel like summer in Tulum — Hurghada surprised me in the best way.
