Morning Devo- Those who endure to the end… By Sherry Thorpe

In February of this year I decided to take a trip to Honolulu, Hawaii. I was not disappointed with my visit, Hawaii has everything. Hawaii has the ocean, volcanoes, hiking trails, scenic views, and much more. Hawaii was simply beautiful.

While in Hawaii I decided to hike up Diamond Head. Diamond Head is Volcanic tuff cone and is a state monument in Hawaii. I woke up before the sun rose that morning ( I read in blogs that its a good place to see the sunrise). I caught the bus to Diamond Head from Wakiki Beach (about a 10 min ride) and I believe I paid $1 or $2 to enter (By car you have to pay to park). I started the journey in the DARK (picture below) and when I say it was dark I had to use my phone’s flashlight just to see the path that I was walking. I met a man on the journey and we began to walk together. I actually felt safer and I am glad that he was there.

Do you see the fear in my eyes? Lol

I WAS TIRED! This was a 1.5 to 2 hour hike round trip and I am not a person who hikes at ALL. Half way through I wanted to quit but the journey back to my hostel wasn’t worth giving up since I had already started the hike.  I called on the Lord a lot. I began thinking why did I sign myself up for this, I am so out of shape. I was tired and hot thinking to myself surely seeing the sunrise after this is not even worth the journey. Feeling defeated I began to take charge and just focus my thoughts on getting to the top, because there was no need for me to complain about taking the journey since I had already began it. I started to see more people on the hike and they provided unspoken encouragement as they continued on the path and didn’t turn around to quit and return home. A determination came over me and I wanted to make it to the top. I wanted to be at the top of the Diamond Head.

Hiking the Diamond head is similar to my walk as a Christian. I started this journey in Christ in 2009 and while I was walking I’ve had days where I wanted to give up and throw in the towel. I started to think but I’ve worked too hard. I’ve suffered too much and sacrificed a lot. It made so much sense to continue the mission appointed to me In Christ. Even my tired days I continued on because I wanted to reach the top. I strategically planned my days to be around the Saints just to receive energy to continue on.  I wanted to hear the words “Well done“- Matt 25:21. Thankfully even when I didn’t want to carry on the Lord’s angels ushered me into God’s presence to give me strength to endure. A desire to endure to the end increased well within my being. And soon again I wanted to be at the table where the Lord serves His people. I wanted to meet my God face to face. No matter how much sweat or tears I suffer(ed) through now, I believe it will be worth it, more worth it than my view at the top of the Diamond Head.

The Top❤️

Are you determined to endure to the end? The bible says, “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Wait I am already saved right? Yes if you have confessed that Jesus is Lord and have been baptized you have received eternal life and you have been saved from the World’s power. Now the journey includes you to choose Christ every day of your life making Him Lord of everything in your life. This is enduring to the end! Choosing Christ even to our very last breathe. Don’t worry if you fail that is what grace, mercy, love, and forgiveness is for. If you fall just don’t stay down. You may lose some battles but remember IN Christ we are more than conquerors. Romans 8:37 YOU can make it to the very TOP in Christ if only you would just believe and place your faith in the Great I AM. I once heard “Your going on is my going on” there is an unspoken encouragement when I see other believers continuing there journey in Christ determined to endure to the end.
